"Trouble On The Roof Of The World"

Saturday 29 March 2008 by Dan Beyer

The Tyrannical Hypocrisy of the Capitalistic Politic or
Money is their God

Aside from the obvious bonanza for Asian Public Relations hacks the current Olympic opportunity being seized by the debacle featuring China, Tibet and Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama shines a light on the heavy handed treatment being given to the peaceful citizens inhabiting “The Roof Of The World”.

To an exasperatingly large extent the global face of the American Government exists as an extension of our corporations, worshiping the almighty dollar more than the egalitarian morality subscribed to by American Citizens. Like it or not we are or at least we were a nation that could have chosen to lead by example. Currently the example stinks.

I find it unconscionable that the world of Governments and business could sanction these Olympic events given the ongoing Chinese oppression of the Tibetan people and exile of the Dalai Llama. Governments and businesses after all are people. It is beyond belief that the Chinese are painting the Dalai Lama as a terrorist, the Asian Che’ Guevara as it were. Who would buy this disinformation? It's an Asian crapfest.

China has become the 800 pound Gorilla in the room, a financial giant, the money behind global initiatives affecting every country including the USA. In the face of this kind of Asian dollar politic I don’t think we will find people within institutions public or private standing up for some 3,000,000 or so quaint Buddhists in Lhasa and the rest of Tibet, including some 150,000 exiles. All that’s left is for the athletes themselves to boycott these games and for consumers to boycott the companies that sponsor this shameful debacle.

Florida's latest attraction is bringing in bargain hunters by the busload. Tour buses won't be going to Disney World or Orlando's many other theme park attractions. They'll be taking a shopping trip in the company of real estate agents and mortgage brokers, hoping to find a bargain among a selection of repossessed and run-down homes. The six-hour "foreclosure express" tour is one symptom of the worst housing crisis to afflict the Sunshine State in recent years, a slump set off by the sub-prime mortgage crisis that has sent repossessions soaring and prices into freefall. The bus follows a pre-determined route through residential neighborhoods and stops at up to a dozen empty houses already repossessed by lenders. The passengers disembark and size up the premises as they decide whether to offer an asking price often already below the open-market value. Tickets cost $45 (£22.50), or $65 a couple, including breakfast and lunch at a fast-food restaurant, and demand is high.

'Nuff said.
