Welcome to d blog, also known as Dan's rant. The content herein is essentially
comprised of miscellaneous ramblings and random thoughts on the nature of
contemporary existence.
Afghanistan is in the throes of a civil war. There are NO insurgents there.
President Obama's speech has me severely disheartened. How and why do you surge a military presence in the hope that it will cure a situation that amounts to a cultural and political dilemma? How do you fight an enemy that looks like everyone else and can hide in plain sight? How do you enlighten a society that for centuries have held grudges for generations?
The idea that we can begin winding down our military efforts in 2011 is ludicrous. This is a hundred years war that we will abandon when we have had enough, be it a decade from now or whenever.
The concept of continuous war is obsolete. When up against an enemy who is happy to wait out your assault for years in a cave, what is the point of obliging them with an occupying force? In the case of Afghanistan where the rule of law is local and the citizenry has no respect for a corrupt Federal Bureaucracy I just cannot fathom the idea of investing Americas Healthcare and Educational nest eggs in an effort to raise up their prehistoric standard of living. Unless we need to thin the herd and terminate the lives of our young people en masse, I just don't see how this expensive effort helps the U.S.?
President Obama, who appears to me to be a Republican in a liberal's suit does not seem to understand that the Taliban are the leaders of the Pashtun Society and as such cannot be eradicated without eliminating the entire Pashtun peoples! The vast majority of Pashtuns are found in an area stretching from southeastern Afghanistan to northwestern Pakistan. Are we afraid that they will hijack a Pakistani Nuke?
The idea that we cannot afford a public healthcare option or an Educational system that ranks better than the 21st worldwide takes on new levels of absurdity when viewed in the light of the $130 billion we spent in Afghanistan so far this year. Just think about the coming doubling and tripling of that bill!!!
“The guerrilla fights the war of the flea, and his military enemy suffers the dog’s disadvantages: too much to defend; too small, ubiquitous, and agile an enemy to come to grips with.” ... Whether ideological, nationalistic, or religious, all guerrilla insurgencies use similar tactics to advance their cause." -
